Which are the Top Private MBA Colleges in India?
The conversation on MBA colleges in India is often centre on Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). IIMs are the top MBA colleges in India and among the best in the world. Hundreds of thousands of students appear for the CAT exam every year intending to get into these institutes. However, IIMs aren’t the only top MBA colleges in India. Some great private colleges often rank alongside, if not better than, many IIMs. Here is a list of the leading private MBA colleges in India.
● XLRI Xavier School of Management (XLRI-XMS)
No conversation about MBA colleges in India is complete without a mention of XLRI. XLRI is a decades-old management institute based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. It offers postgraduate programs such as the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, and Post Graduate Diploma for General Business Management. It admits students based on the Xavier Aptitude Test and GMAT.
● Indian School of Business (ISB)
Indian Schools of Business are peppered across the country’s length and breadth, but the Indian School of Business Hyderabad is in a league of its own. It offers several postgraduate programs, including the widely popular ISB Young Leaders Program, Post Graduate Program in Management and Post Graduate Program for Working Professionals. It admits students based on their GMAT or GRE scores.
● S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR)
The S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research has MBA colleges in India and abroad, but the oldest and most prestigious campus is in Mumbai. SPJIMR offers a host of different postgraduate programs, including a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and an Executive Diploma. It admits students based on their CAT, XAT, or GMAT score.
● Management Development Institute (MDI)
Management Development Institute has its oldest and central campus in Gurgaon and frequently ranks among India’s top MBA colleges. It admits students based on their CAT or GMAT score or their own MDI Test score.
● Institute of Management Technology (IMT)

● Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS)
The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is a significantly cost-effective option for an MBA degree. It offers a full MBA degree as well as a slew of postgraduate management programs. It admits students based on their score in their own entrance examination known as NMAT by GMAC.
It is evident from the above list the IIMs are not the holy grail of MBA colleges in India. Somedifferent private MBA colleges in India can stand up to, and even do better than, IIMs, and are worthy of consideration by students who have done well in entrance exams. It is also prudent to add here that a number of these private colleges can often cost less than even top MBA colleges in India run by the government while offering the same degree. So, when you choose your MBA College, do take these into strong consideration as well.
